A great weekend!

We had lots of fun this weekend. Even though I think it rained here everyday this weekend. We found time for lots of things... a trip to Cracker Barrell, birthday party for Jenna Rose, lots of toy playing (and cleaning up - RJ is starting to get the hang of this), trampoline jumping, chalk drawing, baseball playing, getting soaked in the rain, great cookout with family and friends, painted toenails, and lots of laughs.

RJ even took over the camera on Friday on the way to Cracker Barrell. He's doing pretty well for 4 years old. He took the following pictures in the car...

A little fussy... probably hungry.
He wanted a picture of his movie... Toy Story 2. Nana...Mommy...And of course, his shoes...
Now, a little happier...

RJ practicing writing his name with chalk on the driveway... yay for small obstacles passed! Not too long ago I couldn't even get him to try to write his name.

An afternoon snack while it's raining. Popcorn is always a hit with us!

And finally, pretty painted toenails. I had to paint mine and Payton was watching in awe. She was super still and let me paint hers! So cute! She loved showing off her pretty toes!

Trip to doctor... #???

We officially know all of our nurses and Dr. very well after going through 2 kids who have battled numerous ear infections. Poor Payton has had her fill of ear problems... even after tubes, which are supposed to help! So we weren't all that surprised when we got a call from daycare saying she woke up with blood in her ear! Shocking and a little scary, but not all that out of the ordinary for us. Again, poor little girl that has had to go through all this. (EVEN after 9 months of breastfeeding!!!)

So we suffered through an 1 1/2 hour appt at the dr.'s office... (notice RJ showing off his truck??!! Yes, he is way TOO cute!)

and then of course a trip to Target to get the meds filled. This is the kids in the car waiting as daddy got the meds filled at Target. Can you tell Payton had been crying??!! (Just a little)

And RJ of course loving playing in the car when he can get out of his seatbelt!!

A few days away...

We spent a few days last week at the 6A State Baseball Championship Series in Montgomery. We had a lot of fun even though our team didn't come home with the big prize. The kids enjoyed staying in a hotel, swimming in the pool, and just being away from home! Our hotel was just a few blocks away from the Capitol Building so we walked over for some pictures. Thanks to an old friend, Melissa, who lives in town and works in downtown, we also found out about Chris' famous hot dogs, (the kids devoured in minutes) and some random facts about the Capitol and other buildings, including Dexter Avenue Church that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached in... very cool.

A big boo-boo...

Payton had her first real boo-boo last night... she cried about it but she was over it pretty quickly. I was impressed with her toughness. She did learn a new word for the day: "boo-boo" and she can point and show it to you. She also tried to kiss it herself!!

A great Mother's Day!

It was a great Mother's Day here around the Brooks' household! The kids made wonderful presents at school for me and I even got beautiful flowers from the hubby! He even took a turn with breakfast today! We then enjoyed a cookout with family and friends. Always fun to have the house full on special days!

Early morning, still in our pj's....
RJ was long gone by now (probably playing with his cars and trucks already)
... but Payton wanted to take a picture with mommy!

Got the scrappin' bug...

I have finally jumped back into the world of scrappin'. Not that I ever really left... during my hiatus from paper scrappin' I picked up the tools for digital scappin', have been taking non-stop pictures of my family, still loving all the scrappin' blogs, products, magazines, etc. I am a full 3-4 years behind in recording our family and children's memories. I have now completed 7 months of RJ's baby book. Now onto Payton's and the rest in between! My goal is to create a page a night and hopefully more on the weekends. We'll see... it's definitely eating into my sleeping time but it feels so worth it when I go to sleep knowing I'm being productive.

By the way, I have discovered Studio Calico and love it! The May Kit was waiting on my door
step yesterday... yay!! I love it!! Check it out!

Here is my June 2005 layout... (yes, I used my little sewing machine. No, the lines are not straight, so thank goodness that is the look I was going for! ;-)

(I apologize for the not-so-good picture quality... I think next time I should scan the layout... )

Garbage Truck.

I'm not really one for forwarding emails, but this seemed like a outlook I need to remind myself of daily. It is so easy to get caught up in the rush of our daily lives... I need to remember to slow down and not let other things influence my day.

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!
The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!'
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so... love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.

Also if you get a chance Ali Edwards has some inspiring words for today...

Back to the Zoo.

I took my school club to the Zoo today. It was a great trip. We used it as a reward for meeting our fundraising goal. I was worried high school kids would be "too old" for the Zoo, but they really enjoyed the trip. Just don't ask about the turtles...

Simple fun...

Not many things are more fun than playing in the water sprinklers. We are still trying to figure out the timer system with our sprinklers... so it was a good excuse for the kids to play in the water. I had to be careful and not get caught by the sprinkler trying to catch these pics! Like the lights on the walkway? A good find at Big Lots... they look great and have a blue glow at night. Very pretty... now we have to keep RJ and Payton from playing with them... for some reason all things must resemble drums?!
